In completing the whip stitch, the concept of done is guided by stopping after three stitches.

Correcting the twisted error is associated with matching two striking features at a time.

Score

The tentative score is ACL 4.4

Verify the use of two striking features by observing the copying activity.

Remove incorrect stitches.

Say:

"I will show you again."

Hold the tool with the single cordovan stitch on top.

Say:

"Go from front to back through the next hole.Leave a loop in the lacing.Go from front to back through the loop.Keep the tip to the left as you go through the loop.Tighten the loop first, then tighten the rest.Make sure the lace isn't twisted. Please make three stitches"

Release the tip and let the lacing fall down the back.

As you give the demonstration, be aware of the fact that they are getting the information from what they see and probably ignoring what you say.

Please note. The lacing goes from:

front to back (through the hole) (pic) and then again from

front to back (through the loop) (pic).

Watch the front to back orientation because it is a major part of the scoring criteria.

Hold the tool with the single cordovan stitch on top.

The score is uncertain from observations of stitching so an alternative activity is suggested.

Say:

"I have something else that I would like you to try. It involves coloring. Let me show you."

Take the tool away from the person.

Select the best suggestion:

"You have the first part right.""Look at how you are going through the hole.""Is there another way you can go through the loop?""Is there another way you can tighten the lace?"

When the single cordovan stitch is introduced, the cognitive demands may cause anxiety.

  • Respond to all expressions of concern by saying:
"Just do the best you can."

General guidelines for the single cordovan stitch:

  • If less than three stitches are made, say:
"Please make three stitches."
  • Avoid verifying correct or incorrect performance.
  • Be quiet and observe.
  • If the person asks to stop, end the stitching activity.
