Sensory information may be used to capture a person's attention if they are anxious. Pleasant and calming sensory information may be used by the person to modulate their anxiety.

Their ability to stick to a memory of how things are done is limited. They do not stick to their memorized sample until they are done. This often results in them not following a standard of performance. They may tell you that that's how they like it or think they are being creative.

A pattern of getting into everything can cause a lot of problems. Keeping then busy doing what they can do can prevent many conflicts.

In time, staff members are apt to become frustrated with the need to clean up their mess or get them out of trouble. Try to find out what assumptions are getting the person into trouble and start with reading. Staff attitudes change when they understand the cognitive disability is causing the problems.

Their awareness of current events and the local news is often misleading to family and friends in that they scan the headlines without much analysis. When their age or cognitive disability is suspected by unscrupulous people, they are at risk of being tricked into buying unnecessary things.

Verbal communication includes expressions of personal preferences in striking cues and making requests for changes. Their conversations have more depth than ACL 4.4 because they are able to bring their inner private life to current plans, choices, and decisions.

Their awareness of other people includes a capacity to distinguish between normal and abnormal psychology and comment that other people are different or inferior. They may have theories about fortune / misfortunes, disease and illness.

Short, superficial conversations and short legal questioning can give the impression that the person is functioning within normal limits because they are not aware of their illiteracy or their functional mistakes. On-site documentation of difficulties is usually required for legal credibility of functional incapacity.

Being able to hold information within their working memory for a few seconds results in the ability to use information not directly perceivable or stored in their long-term memory. This results in a big jump in the types of sensory cues that they can use.

They can partially hide an image behind another image. They can orientate what they are doing by a simple image.

Slight changes in shades of colors are not noticed, neither are fine spaces.

Bold smells are noticed and may be pleasant or unpleasant to them.

On a flat surface they are able to make simultaneous adjustments in the horizontal and vertical plane. For example, they can adjust the spacing of tiles, stamps, stickers around the edge of a notecard without a grid. Overlaps over grid lines or over stamps and stickers are also possible.
