Making improvements using the concept of a line occurs in many activities like painting, coloring, making models and other craft activities. The person may enjoy paint by number projects. These are readily available in craft shops and online.
Completing goal orientated activities to improve their home life is very rewarding for the person functioning in ACL 5 Low. Tidying and organizing their living spaces may be very rewarding. They will however need some help with sorting and deciding if something is necessary to keep. Remember that continuously reminding the person about secondary consequences that do not make sense to the person may be counterproductive. Repeating something that they don't understand may make them oppositional. Just say it once and let the person make up their mind later.
Making improvements to patterns attracts the person's attention. Having a sense of order helps them find things. There are lots of organizing and arranging for a better effect which can be found in a person's bedroom and kitchen.
ACL 5.2
The person can see patterns and surface appearances. Polishing and sanding objects is enjoyable to the person. What projects are available to the person that uses improvements in surface appearances? Try the stenciling activity and see if the person can add shaping for a 3D effect.
Affirmative activities are activities that keep the person happily occupied. Allow the person to use their mental abilities builds a positive sense of who they are. Within ACL 5 Low, the person can access information from their short-term memory. This information, which lasts from an hour to a week, allows the person to make improvements to their previous actions. Simpler less demanding activities have a calming effect on the person whereas more demanding activities that uses the person's best ability to function makes the person more alert and encourages maximum task engagement.
Typing is a skill which can be learnt when a person is functioning within ACL 5 Low. The person has the ability to use information stored in their short-term memory to write a paragraph of information. The person's skill level in completing this task will be dependent on past training and experiences. Analysis of information being written will depend on repetitive training on how to structure their argument.
We may feel stressed when we feel things are being taken from us. This may include opportunities to go out or the right to use our own space as we wish.
Being assertive is saying how we feel without hurting the other person's feelings.
We say:
"I feel … when …"
"I would like to … instead."
We need to avoid speaking aggressively. Saying, "I hate you because you won't let me go out" will upset the other person and make the argument worse.
Skills development programs are used to help a person functioning within ACL 5 Low to obtain new skills. This is often required if the person has never functioned higher than ACL 5 Low. The person does not have the well learnt past memories formed when they were functioning without a cognitive disability.
