The person is likely to have good verbal skills and be able to describe what they would like to do. Do not overwhelm the person by providing several choices at once. Choosing between two items works best for them.

Social awareness includes the norms for language, clothing, body adornments, seasons, etc. The person usually excuses themselves when the social norms are broken by them. When others break the norms, they tend to stay away from that person.

ACL 4.4 is functionally illiterate for most people operating within this mode. There are a number of people who can read aloud correctly and have no idea what they read. If so, they will probably not recognize the functional illiteracy and take steps to compensate for the problem, which is a serious concern for living alone and driving alone.

The person usually follows a simple demonstration that matches using two striking features. The ability to use two striking features at a time results in more efficient use of sensory information. They are also more able to maintain their attention on the sensory information.

Demonstration

Within ACL 4.4, the demonstration becomes less important than the sample.

When doing physical exercises, the person can often count up to 20 repetitions of the same exercise.

The checkerboard pattern has served as the classic ACL 4 design for decades, because it is found in the folk art of cultures all around the world and the distinction between ACL 4.2 and 4.4 is so clear.

Within ACL 4.2, people can alternate colors just fine along the first row, but the second row creates problems. In the second row, one must alternate colors horizontally and vertically. The second row can be done correctly within ACL 4.4. Within ACL 4.2, the checkerboard pattern is often replaced by vertical stripes.

The person is usually compliant with matching a standard of performance and will be able to independently compare / match two features at a time and correct matching errors.

Time

People operating within ACL 4.4 frequently ask for the name of the day and the date, in an effort to keep track of the passage of time. In an institutional setting they anticipate a different rhythm to weekdays versus weekend days.

The rhythms of social events are adjusted to, including holidays and monthly checks.

Within ACL 4.4, the person is able to use matching to a sample using two striking features of color, shape, size, number of items (up to four), or linear information. This ability improves their accuracy and speed as they can use horizontal and vertical linear information simultaneously.

The sustained attention time to complete an activity that could be done in 10 to 15 minutes is usually 30 to 45 minutes.

They may lack the ability to maintain the focus of their attention on a repetitive exercise routine.

Their attention span can be influenced by the appeal of the activity that they are doing.

Their processing speed is slow, about two to three times the normal rate to do the activity. The fact that other people are waiting on them and becoming irritated will probably not seem relevant to what they are doing.

When a direction is demonstrated, it may take 5 to 10 seconds for them to complete the demonstrated action, which is slower than slow normal limits.

Attention is often captured by the sample of the project that is to be done. The evaluation of whether their performance matches the sample may be done independently or in response to a prompt that asks: "Is yours like the sample?" When the error is in a striking cue, they are usually able to fix it. The sample may be checked several times and errors corrected while working on a project. At the end, they can evaluate the finished product, compare it to prior experiences and express satisfaction or displeasure with what they did.
