Introduce the activity by saying:

"We are making a vinyl coaster. This activity will help me understand what type of information you need in order to complete a complex novel task."

Ending the Activity

The activity ends when the person has finished the ironing activity or they say they want to discontinue the task.

Observe the number of times they glance at the sample.

The ironing assessment is different from other ACLS-6 activities as its aim is to ascertain what quality of information the person requires in order to complete a complex novel task.

Give the person a few opportunities to complete the ironing activity with no support before increasing the level of support provided. You are dropping the task demand of the activity by providing hints, then prompts and finally demonstrations, until they can complete it.

Read through the instructions to see what levels of support you can provide and when to provide.
