Spatial fit means the ability to perceive a 3-dimensional object and how it fits in with surrounding objects.

Bi-lateral hand coordination is related to the ability to use spatial fit. Rotating an object while modifying it with the other hand accurately requires the ability to perceive the 3rd dimension.

The question is: Do people within ACL 5.4 coordinate the actions of both their left and right hands simultaneously in order to cut along the curved line with this maple leaf?

The following materials are required:

  • A printout of the maple leaf PDF.
  • Pair of scissors, either left or right handed, as required.

The maple leaf activity is used to confirm or rule out ACL 5.4.

The ability to perceive spatial fit results in consistent spacing of the corner pieces.

The ability to hold an image in long term memory and repeated comparisons with the sample results in the ability to pay attention to subtle differences.

See if the person can see other subtle differences such as dust on surfaces, greasy residue on poorly washed items or slippery shiny surfaces.

The kite design is completed without constant referral back to the sample. They can place down a few pieces correctly before needing to refer back to the sample.

The tentative score is ACL 5.0.

Being able to sustain their ability to continue matching until the design is complete is the scoring criterion. They will keep referring to the sample until each piece is placed and the design is complete.

The tentative score is ACL 4.8.

Being able to overlap an object over another is the scoring criterion.

Being able to hold an image within the person's working memory results in the ability to compare the images and hide one tip of the rhombus under the corner pieces. The person will stop referring to the sample when their mental energy is all used up. This is when errors occur.

The tentative score is ACL 4.6.

Being able to use two striking features simultaneously results in the ability to align objects using horizontal and vertical axis simultaneously.

The yellow kites are aligned with darker coloured kites.

The inability to hold an image in their working memory results in poor ability to overlap one image over another.

Score

The tentative score is ACL 4.4.

Places the white kites on top of the darker kites but in incorrect alignment. They are able to match using one feature at a time which is each object and their rough position.

The tentative score is ACL 4.2.
