Initially reads through all instructions carefully and asks questions to check understanding before beginning stenciling.

The therapist may be asked for design ideas or design ideas may include exploration of surface appearance.

Secondary Effects – Surface appearance

Prevents errors by:

  • Taping down stencil without cues,
  • Practices new effects on scrap paper,
  • Avoids wet surfaces by arranging work materials or working on other dry areas first,
  • Masks off areas to avoid contamination errors.

Secondary Effects – Spatial Fit

May not anticipate effects, such as:

  • cleaning wet paint before turning the stencil over,
  • big brushes that include adjacent unwanted designs.

Alterations

Follows their original plan during stenciling.

Timing

Asks for drying times of paint and considers this information when checking for dryness.
