Within ACL 3, the concept of an imaginary straight line seems to organise the actions that are observed. The concept of a line guides what they do. The concept follows a developmental sequence seen in children under the age of three years old. The sequence is intentional grasp and release, moving an object back and forth, placing objects in a row, placing objects around the edge and outlining shapes, matching and sorting by colour and shape, and colouring or filling in the space in a shape or container.

Within ACL 2, movement information comes from within the person's mind and it starts the instinctive urge to sit and stand up. Movement information guides what the person does.

Emerging gross motor control follows the developmental sequence of head stability, sitting, standing up while hanging on, shuffling forward a step or two on a flat surface, walking forward, and walking towards a location.

Within ACL 1, the person's attention is aroused by strong sensory cues that stimulate any of the five senses, one at a time. The person experiences, evaluates and responds to their sensations.

Moving in bed or in a fully supported seating, without head control is the limit of their physical, gross motor control.

Affirmative activities are activities that keep the person happily occupied. Within ACL 6, the person can use abstract information in a creative manner to build a positive sense of themselves.

With a physical disability and operating within ACL 6, the person can be expected to use all adaptive equipment independently, anticipate intangible, abstract safety precautions when using adaptive equipment, and enquire about and follow safety precautions. They may effectively direct actions of new carers, when physically unable. They may read labels on new products.

Within ACL 6, the person can handle stressful driving conditions such as busy areas and unfamiliar roads as they have quick and accurate decision-making skills.

Within ACL 6, they will learn how to use public transport along with ticketing systems by reading signs and other public information. They may use a cell phone or ask for assistance if unexpected changes occur.
