The Person

By Anonymous (not verified), 5 March, 2025

When the person tells narrative stories, their facial expressions and intonations are within normal limits. They are rarely aware of the time constraints of the listener and do not perceive the need to shorten the length of their story telling. Many people like to talk about themselves for hours. When conducting an interview or a conversation to obtain needed information, they often have to be interrupted.

When the story telling becomes a list of endless and/ or circular complaints, dwelling on the negatives makes cooperation with other people difficult for them. Try to identify time periods when complaining occurs and fill the time with constructive activities they can do.

When the person has a history of receiving a lot of disgust and contempt, they are apt to be in a defense position and ready to argue for self-protection. Arguing works by blaming everything and everyone else, this directs attention away from them. Avoid threatening them further and aim for making them feel secure. Pushing them to do something they are not sure they can do has the potential for scaring them into an angry fight. Demonstrate or try again tomorrow.
