Two striking features are used simultaneously to plod through a task at a slow but consistent pace. Striking features include colour, shape, size, number of items (up to four), and linear information; pattern recognition includes the checkerboard, simple designs, and horizontal and vertical lines.
Their slow information processing speed is not recognised as a problem and there is rarely any insight into the presence of a cognitive disability. When asked they usually report that all self-care, domestic chores and financial management are fine, which is rarely confirmed by anyone who observes their performance.
