For the whip stitch in the stitching activity, the person is able to untwist the lace without removing the lace from the hole. They can see two axis of information in order to untwist the lace.

For the single cordovan stitch in the stitching activity, the person meets the following criteria by going:

  • Front to back (through the hole), and
  • Back to front (through the loop).
  • Or the opposite:
  • Back to front (through the hole), and
  • Front to back (through the loop).

For the copying activity, the person is able to complete a checkerboard pattern without spacing. For Design B they do not notice the yellow cross.

In the clover, kite and flower pot activities, the person places the object in the correct orientation as they can use horizontal and vertical information simultaneously. They however have difficulty placing an object so it is partially hidden as the image is not stored in their working memory.

To Verify

See if the person is able to match using two striking features simultaneously in activities such as card making or using a hole puncher.

To Rule Out

To check to see that the person is not functioning within ACL 4.6, watch to see if the person is picking up their head to scan the environment. Scanning is ACL 4.6.

Can the person overlap pieces easily to form a coherent picture? Try the tractor or duck card activity. If they can overlap the pieces easily, they are functioning above ACL 4.4. Someone else will be required to cut out the pieces beforehand.
