For the person, the need to walk is incessant. They will often want to walk even when carers have activities which they want them to do like toileting, eating, drinking and resting. Try using lower level information to capture their attention like weighted blankets or a weighted doll or pet.
Someone asked me once did I mean that the person just wants to walk and the word need was too strong. I can remember a case where a person was functioning in ACL 2.4 and she had a fractured bone in her foot which was not healing. We tried very hard to get her to sit still and take the weight off the foot as it was obviously very painful. She would not stay off the foot and since we had a no restraint policy in place, the only thing we could do was to administer pain medication to reduce the pain. Of course, she kept walking. The need to walk is very strong when someone is functioning in ACL 2.4.
