Skills development programs are used to help a person functioning within ACL 5 Low to obtain new skills. This is often required if the person has never functioned higher than ACL 5 Low. The person does not have the well learnt past memories formed when they were functioning without a cognitive disability.
Skills development programs can be used to learn any skills. The basic principles are the same, the instructions must be short and simple, and a demonstration must be given. The person will require lots of repetitive practice to help them form a new habit which they can easily retrieve. A few week's break from using this new learnt skill will result in fading. Retraining will be required to regain this skill.
A few examples have been included below. Adjust these to suit the person's situation.
