Carefully designed activities are used to see if the person can hold information in their working memory which lasts for about a second.
To Verify
Can the person store information within their working memory? If they can overlap an image behind another image without being confused this confirms ACL 4 High. An image maybe held in their working memory for a few seconds.
While completing the clover or the kite design, the person can tuck the yellow rhomboids under the red corners with ease.
When presented with the stitching activity, they can make a stitch that roughly resembles the single cordovan stitch.
In Design B of the copying activity, the yellow cross design captures their attention and they can use this to help organise the design.
When colouring the diamond, they can colour this design one triangular piece at a time. In ACL 4.6, an error may occur when they fatigue and stop referring to the sample. In ACL 4.8, they colour each triangle at a time until they are done.
To Rule Out
Can the person hold information for a short period of time beyond their working memory?
Is the person unable to store information for more than a minute resulting in them requiring to refer to the sample after each action? If they cannot place a few pieces before they need to refer back to the sample, this rules out ACL 5 Low.
The single cordovan stitch can be very confusing for making an evaluation for ACL 4.8 to 5.0. In ACL 4.8, they can memorise. If they tighten the whole stitch, they may appear to complete three single cordovan stitches.
When completing Design B, C or D of the copying activity, if the person has to refer to the sample after placing each piece, this rules out ACL 5 Low.
In the clover or the kite design, if they need to refer to the sample after placing each piece, this rules out ACL 5 Low. The person will likely not space each corner piece a small distance from the edge.
