Skills development programs are used to help a person functioning within ACL 4 Low to learn a new daily skill. This is often required if the person has never functioned higher than ACL 4 Low. The person does not have the well learnt past memories formed when they were functioning without a cognitive disability.
Skills development programs can be used to learn routine daily skills. The basic principles are the same, the instructions must be short and simple and a demonstration must be given. The person will require daily repetitive practice to help them form this new habit which they can easily retrieve. A disruption in the daily training or a change of the routine and setting will result in the person being unable to complete the new task. Retraining will be required to regain this interrupted lost skill.
A few examples have been included below. Adjust these to suit the person's situation.
