Sensory Information

Without sensory stimulation, the signs of sensory deprivation are screaming and hollering at odd hours. Circadian rhythms are lost with sensory deprivation. With prolonged sensory deprivation, people are quiet, but they curl-up into a foetal position and acquire muscle contractions and bed sores.

Sensory stimulation activities in ACL 1 High include a variety of sensory information which the person finds comforting and draws a positive reaction from. This will vary due to their past experiences. Someone who has had a close pet may appreciate the touch of soft furry textures, whereas someone who is petrified of animals may find this sensation frightening.

When compared to ACL 1 Low, more sensory cues will probably arouse the person's attention, with more definitive responses to personal favourites. The amount of attention aroused by sensory stimulation is usually better when seated in a chair.
