The ability to prevent mistakes is applied by the person by looking at the sample often. A mental representation of the sample (image) is formed and used to compare with their uncolored design.

Looking at the sample prevents mistakes in the beginning but mistakes are made later on or the person stops coloring before all of the triangles are completed (ACL 4.6).
Looking at the sample continues to prevent mistakes until coloring the design is completed. Triangles are colored one at a time (ACL 4.8).
The person forms an image of a red and / or yellow diamond and colors across adjacent triangle lines within those boundaries (needs verifying with Design C from the copying activity) (ACL 5.0).
