The person's attention is captured by the whole of a visual pattern and held by causing orderly effects in the parts of the pattern. Patterns are provided, and drawing a design is not expected.
When the person has nothing to do, the person's search for order may be interpreted as restless or agitated. The person may be busy moving materials around, but when they find a visual pattern they may not remember how they found it. Difficulties with retaining images during a restless search may appear to be more disorganized or aimless than they really are. Restless tinkering and fiddling is often eliminated when given a sample with a visual pattern to copy.
