While seated on the edge of the bed, the person holds their head up and can standup, if they can weight bear. If they cannot weight bear, they should be able to hold their head up for at least 10 minutes.
To Verify
To verify, start with three seated activities, one of which should be upper extremity range of motion (UE ROM) exercises with head supports. If the person can do UE ROM exercises and has head control, try placing them in a standing frame.
To Rule Out
The difference between ACL 2.0 and 2.2 is a better sense of balance and the wish to propel forward. When a person views the standing frame as a restraint, the reason could be that they want to walk, which is ACL 2.2 or higher. Check their balance before you try a forearm support walker. When pushed, they should be able to extend their arms to prevent falls in ACL 2.2. Within ACL 2.2, when placed in a walking frame, they will want to step. If they are unable to maintain their seating balance or step forward, they are functioning within ACL 2.0.
