Memory Aides

By Anonymous (not verified), 5 March, 2025

Memory aides maybe used to prompt the person to carry out activities like attend to an appointment on time. Many of these memory aids are common and readily available. The difference between a person with a cognitive disability versus someone functioning in level 6 or higher is that without these aides, they have a higher chance than normal of forgetting these appointments. Some memory aides are wall calendars, diaries, and electronic apps on the person's smart phone.

Other memory aides commonly used are shopping apps and to do check lists. These maybe in paper format or electronic. Let the person choose what they would prefer to use.

Warnings to remind them of unwanted secondary consequences are also needed when someone is functioning within ACL 5 Low. They are likely to fail to remember a problem that has happened a long time ago. When this happens, the person has a higher chance than normal of experiencing negative secondary effects. The denial that these incidences are occurring more frequently than normal is often attributed to bad luck.
