Non-Weight-Bearing Adherence
The person will have reduced ability to inhibit the action of non-weightbearing. The use of non-weight bearing boots maybe used to remind them to not weight bear.
Their learning of a transfer sequence is more fluid. Demonstration with practice is required for them to master the task. Reminders will be required to reinforce safety procedures such as locking brakes.
They may follow a demonstration and usually try to follow it invariantly (e.g. avoiding falls caused by hypertension by always getting up slowly) with standby for minimum assistance to ensure safety.
Ambulatory with Support Required
Aids like walking sticks, quad sticks and crutches maybe used with some training. The person is more able to vary their gait. Reminders are required to remind them to use the aid initially. The secondary result of not using the aid may not be understood or adhered to such as the increased risk of falls or the results of not following weight restrictions post-surgery.
They will notice the changes in terrain, slipperiness of the floor within ACL 5.2. Being able to judge small spaces and determine if the aid can fit through tight spaces enters the scale in ACL 5.4.
Transfers
Unless they have severe physical disabilities, a gait bet is generally not required as they are more able to adjust their weight.
Reminders are often required to lock their brakes when transferring on / off wheelchairs.
Wheelchair Use
Within ACL 5.0, the person is better able to push and pull the rims with varied amounts of force. They will have difficulty steering in tight turns until they are functioning in ACL 5.4 when they can coordinate their left and right hands simultaneously to make a tight turn or spin on the spot.
The person will scan and look around their immediate environment to avoid hitting objects.
