Telephone

By Anonymous (not verified), 5 March, 2025

When the person is left alone, access to a telephone is important. Land lines in some geographical areas are connected with emergency services with the address of the caller posted on each service's screen. Dialing 911 or 000 will bring help if the person can reach the phone.

Portable alarm buttons and smart watches that people can wear to notify services if the person is unconscious or have a fall are more affordable. Alert buttons are less expensive.

Within ACL 5 Low, the person will be able to learn how to use a new mobile phone with repeated demonstrations. Written or verbal instructions may still cause confusion for the person when the instructions do not result in the formation of appropriate mental images. A demonstration is more effective than yelling at the person or getting them to write down the instructions.

The rare person develops a habit of making nuisance calls that can be blocked by answering services or other modern technology. The few people who have established a set pattern of placing these calls can be nearly impossible to stop and usually function between ACL 4.6 and 5.4. Recommend an answering service or an answering machine.
