Within ACL 5 Low, the person is better equipped to complete laundry tasks on their own. They are more able to effectively use and vary range of motion and strength to solve new problems in laundry activities with assistance to avoid harmful and undesirable effects. The person may set and follow a weekly schedule for doing laundry but has trouble adhering to it. They are able to learn a new sequence of actions (e.g. how to use a new washing machine or laundry product) demonstrated several steps at a time.
Caregivers will need to provide the person with reminders about performing essential laundry tasks as needed. Demonstrations of how a new product is used along with clear written instructions is required to ensure its proper use.
Someone else will need to help the person identify hidden properties and secondary effects to assist with problem solving, selecting proper washing methods or temperature settings for care of unusual, new, unlabeled articles. They will also need help in identifying proper storage and handling of toxic cleaning agents.
Dryers
Within ACL 5.2, they are more able to recognize the different types of fabric to determine if they can be dried in a tumble dryer. Within ACL 5.4, they are more able to recognize if they have over loaded the dryer. Better information retrieval results in the person being able to remember to clean the lint trap after each time the dryer is used.
