Given the opportunity, laundry can be sent out, hand washed, or done at home in a machine and the quality varies. These are common expectations that should be validated with observations.
Washing
A clothes hamper beside where they change clothes may help with the dirty clothes. If clean clothes are to be put away, someone else will need to make sure it is completed within ACL 4.6. Within ACL 4.8, individuals may be content to spend an hour putting clean clothes away. Why? They like being in control and having things in good order. If that is what makes them happy, try to arrange their schedule so they can do it.
Sorting
White clothes may be separated from other clothing, but consistency is not dependable. New red colored items should be pre-washed to prevent pink underwear.
The person may not distinguish between hand, machine or dry cleaning fabrics within ACL 4.6. In ACL 4.8 they can read the label and comprehend the instructions. Someone will have to demonstrate how to carry out new tasks. More difficult tasks will need to be learnt by rote learning.
Sorting clothes according to common washing machine classifications (delicates, permanent press, fine garments, bedding, or water temperatures) is apt to escape the attention of people within ACL 4 High because those are surface properties (ACL 5.2).
Ask them to set clothing aside that requires extra attention caused by stains, torn seams or mending needs.
Washing Machine
Detergent and bleach pods may prevent dumping unmeasured soap and bleach onto clothing throughout ACL 4. Pods may be more expensive in the beginning but the excesses of most people in ACL 4 make them cheaper and safer in the long-run.
The settings of the dials of the machines can be marked with tape.
Within ACL 4.8, rote learning of new procedures (modified machines, schedules, delicate hand laundry procedures) can be done followed with supervision on site.
Dryers
Within ACL 4.6, the person is less likely to persevere with ironing tasks. Placing the clothes into a dryer on a wrinkle free setting and using low iron fabrics will work better. In ACL 4.8, they are more apt to persevere with ironing tasks.
Within ACL 4.6, remind them to clean the lint trap periodically. In ACL 4.8, they are more apt to remember to empty the lint trap on their own. Caregivers will need to monitor that this task is performed in order to prevent an accidental fire.
