Affirmative activities are activities which keeps the person happily occupied. Below are a few suggestions.
Grasp & Release
There are many mini basketball games on the market which encourages people to use their grasp and release skills. You can also quickly make up your own activity by using a tennis size ball and a waste paper bin.

Lines
Use the person's past occupational history to find activities where they may have used the rough concept of a line. Sweeping may be a task which the person enjoyed in the past. See if they are able to pick up a broom and use it. They are unlikely to use their actions in an effective goal directed manner but this is not the point. The point is that they are happily occupied and get to use their mental energy doing something which they enjoy.
Folding
A lot of cultures have a history of folding items. These may be napkins, hand towels of tea towels. Other interesting cleaning cloths of different textures may also be used. Do not throw away any interesting packaging the cloths came in as the pictures may also encourage the use of the items.
Batting
Activities like blowing up a balloon and tossing it up for the person to hit may attract the person's attention. The slower movement of the balloon captures the person's attention.
Air hockey type games where the person has to stop an object hitting their goal may also capture the person's attention. This may be set up on a table by using objects to protect the edges and a puck maybe a plastic lid and a plastic cup maybe used as the stick. Use your imagination and creativity.
Stamps
There are many types of stamping activities on the market. I personally like clear stamps as they look more adult like and there are so many designs available. There are also different types of handles available on the market which we can use and adapt to the individual. You also vary the length of the activity by adjusting the size of what they are stamping. The size can vary from a card to a whole placemat.
Stacking
The choice is endless on what may be stacked to cause an effect. Just open your eyes and see what is in your kitchen pantry. My husband used to wonder what I and our children had gotten up to whenever he arrived home early when my children were toddlers.
Sorting
Sorting can be a very captivating task for someone functioning in ACL 3 High. Many things may be sorted. We just have to be aware of choking hazards. It is interesting that Lego people's heads have a hole in them to prevent choking for children playing with these toys. Adults who may have a past history of using these toys can get to play with them all over again.
For men who may have enjoyed fishing, they may enjoy sorting fishing lures. You will however need to prevent injury from the sharp hooks by gluing a bead to cover the hook by using heat glue.
Coloring
The person now has the ability to sustain their attention for coloring activities. Please refer to the download section for coloring activities. We have found using twisty crayons quite effective. Use a well-known brand as they are easier to color with.
