ACL 1.0 - 1.2

The person is unable to sit upright. They will be more comfortable being left in bed with the use of an active pressure mattress with regular repositioning.

ACL 1.4

The person may sit in supported sitting for a few minutes to avoid fatigue.

Full seating support focuses on vertical posture:

  • Position a pressure care cushion that provides stability and protects bony prominences. Hold in place with a pelvic positioning strap to keep the pelvis in a neutral position.
  • Use cushions to support for the natural curves in the back, lumbar and cervical lordosis.
  • If a tilt-in-space system is used, provide head support to prevent neck strain.
  • Adjust the foot rest height so the ankles are bent to prevent "foot drop".

Physical and / or mental stamina seldom lasts longer that a few minutes. That few minutes often effects the sense of comfort / agitation observed in the following hours.

Funding sources, equipment and seating services often vary and change. Networking with local therapists helps keeping up and locating sources of equipment and payment policies.
