Abstract information makes sense to the person. Abstract information is ideas or concepts that the person uses to achieve a desired effect or understand a situation. The person is not only focused on what they can see but also concepts and ideas like heat, electricity, chemical reactions, finances, insurance, superannuation, medication use and other people's feelings. The person is able to readily access their long-term memory including advice and stories from other people. Information from the person's senses can be used to make improvements. Taste is often associated with cooking activities. There are numerous recipes the person can trial. If cooking is a new activity for the person, they can learn to cook new recipes by reading and following instructions. If the person lives alone or comes from a small family unit or is cooking alone, they can adjust the recipe to cook smaller quantities, otherwise freeze any leftovers, if possible. Freezing single serve quantities is another option.

Completing goal orientated activities to improve their home life is very rewarding for the person functioning in ACL 5 High. Tidying and organising their living spaces may be very rewarding. They will however need some help with understanding abstract safety concepts like heat and electricity. Remember that continuously reminding the person about abstract concepts that do not make sense to the person may be counterproductive. Repeating something that they don't understand may make them oppositional.
