Introduce the activity by saying:

"We are making a vinyl coaster. This activity will help me understand what type of information you need in order to complete a complex novel task."

Ending the Activity

The activity ends when the person has finished the ironing activity or they say they want to discontinue the task.

Observe the number of times they glance at the sample.

The ironing assessment is different from other ACLS-6 activities as its aim is to ascertain what quality of information the person requires in order to complete a complex novel task.

Give the person a few opportunities to complete the ironing activity with no support before increasing the level of support provided. You are dropping the task demand of the activity by providing hints, then prompts and finally demonstrations, until they can complete it.

Read through the instructions to see what levels of support you can provide and when to provide.

Being able to use two striking features simultaneously results in the ability to align objects using horizontal and vertical axis simultaneously.

The inability to hold an image in their working memory results in poor ability to overlap one image over another.

The ability to grasp the concept that they are making a picture results in red heart petals being placed above the pot. These pieces are likely to be poorly organised.

Score

The tentative score is ACL 4.0.

The inability to classify information into steps for completing an activity results in the pieces being placed down with poor orientation in a random fashion.

They will keep going with the task until all the pieces are used up and may request more pieces if their focus is on covering all the spaces.

Score

The tentative score is ACL 3.8.

The person's attention is on putting down each piece as opposed to making a picture of the flower pot. Pieces are usually placed along one border. The shapes are often placed in an upright position.

Score

The tentative score is ACL 3.6.
